I do love me a lot of things – road trips, bridges, food. Mostly, I just Iove my life! Throw in a bit of culture and a good musical occasionally and I’m there.
I’ve been blessed sufficiently to experience shows on Broadway, London’s West End, in Las Vegas and some fabulous local productions at the Civic Theatre, Invercargill. If I had to pick an all-time favourite I’d have said “We Will Rock You” at the Paris, Las Vegas. Honestly, I was there with myself front row centre and was off my preverbal chops excited.
Until now.
&Juliet, everything about this show was fabulous. I was captivated from the moment I arrived. The Regent Theatre is a stunning old-school ornate venue, with the exterior bathed in pink light and colourful signage.
Walking in there were projections along the walls. London Streets and locales I was familiar with.
And the show! So clever, so well written. Had I even heard of Max Martin? No! Did I know his music and Lyrics? No! Or did I? The genius, as it were, and let me quote . . .
“behind more #1 hits than any other artist this century”
You don’t know what you don’t know but we’re all here to learn. Music aside, the story-line was so incredibly ‘what if?’ on the Romeo and Juliet story but hold on, they were secondary characters to Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway. That was an interesting dynamic to explore.
I’m now left wanting to know more about the Bard and Anne Hathaway, so I’m off to consult Dr Google!
